Hello, everyone! All…four or five of you that have found this site anyway, haha. I wanted to make a post today to let you know about mine and Onion Knights' plans for the relaunch. :)

Since it has been confirmed that you'll be able to switch servers at the time of the relaunch (or phase 3 in beta, if you're able to be there), myself, Raldo, and Obsy all three made the decision that we'd like to change servers. There are a variety of reasons for this, one important one I'll explain below. But this means that we'll be moving from Ridill to Balmung once we're able.

What does this mean for you? Well, a handful of things. The biggest is that, if you'd like to stay on Ridill for your own reasons, we'll be parting ways. :( I'll miss everyone who does stay, and I wish you the best in your future endeavors. I also sincerely hope you'll stay in contact with me either on here or on facebook or some other medium!

However, if you'd like to move with us, I'll be setting up Onion Knights as a social shell on Balmung. The shell will be casual and will just focus on helping one another with whatever they need. More than likely that means it'll be a secondary place to hang out when people are around and there's nothing else going on in another shell, but with the added benefit of having myself and Raldo, and whoever else, to craft, harvest, quest, or mission with. :) If that appeals to anyone at all, then Onion Knights will indeed be around.

Now, the reason for us leaving is that the three of us have decided to establish a small free company called the Hydra Corps. This is an invite-only group that's meant to focus on a small amount of people tackling big challenges. For anything that requires more than the members we have, we're also currently forging alliances with other groups, particularly in the roleplaying community. We've already reached out to TALE, a truly wonderful group of people who we look forward to working with.

I wanted to get this up now - relatively early - so that you can consider this for yourself. Make the decision that's best for you, and again, keep in touch. I'm extremely grateful for all of your support over the years–for putting up with me and for being a great group of people to log on to see.

They may not keep their same name, and they may even decide to merge some of the servers, but until we hear otherwise we don't really have anything else to call them or make assumptions on.

All we know is that there will be a preset destination server (per server) for people who don't explicitly choose to change servers, so that communities are not disrupted by the conversion to ARR, so it's generally safe to assume that a server switch will land you into a different server community.

That much is true. But there are going to be different data centers with different worlds, so what if Balmung ends up in JP or EU?

I still don't think the location of the servers was ever an issue in 1.0 (the 100-200ms transfer time doesn't influence much if things get sent out two seconds late already), and seeing as ARR isn't that action-y it won't be much of an issue there either. But you'll still have different people.

True, we'll have to take another look at things once the data center locations are revealed.

aww.. and Tale must be on the other server(hence the switch?)?.. hmm well gl to everyone and wherever we all end up.. was fun and good to meet some cool peeps.

I'm so excited for XIV again with all the new news!!

We haven't been able to get on yet due to work, but when we get home we'll probably tinker around. I think we were headed to the Ultros server, but I don't even know if that's still an option since I keep hearing servers are going up and down and not available and whatnot. We'll be on… somewhere… in a few hours.

I'll be dropping that as soon as I can import my character with levels/items/whatever intact, however. It sounds like that won't start, at best, until next weekend though.
